God Never Said That.

God wants us to be happy...or does He want us to be satisfied in Him. Given these two things are not mutually exclusive but many people chase happiness and they should be chasing after God. I simply want to remind anyone that happens by this site that God wants you to chase Him not the temporary trappings of this world.

God never said that He wanted you to be happy but He did say that He wants you to be His!!!

These people can make some food boxes!

Over the last several months the youth at Overflow, along with some fantastic adults, have been meeting once per month to make food boxes at Lighthouse Ministries. I am so impressed with each person's willingness to serve in this way. They come in after work, school or both and are always happy to do it and EXTREMELY efficient. Last week they made 116 boxes in 30 minutes! (They only stopped because they ran out of food for the boxes.)

More impressive, they think it is no big deal. They don't brag about it or expect a reward for doing it. They simply want to serve Lakeland's hungry by putting these boxes together. They pray over them and expect God to use their effort to bring Himself Glory that only He deserves. But I couldn't resist boasting a bit. I am so proud of this bunch.

Time to boast!

So we have had this website for 2 or 3 years now and obviously we have never really used the blog feature, but I would like to. The problem is that I AM NOT A BLOGGER! I have written a few from time-to-time, but I always delete them. After all, who wants to know what I think. I have always found it egotistical...unfairly so.

You see, I have tried to live my life by Micah 6:8. You know the verse: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness (mercy), and to walk humbly with your God?"  And I have always equated blogging with boasting and thats not humble. But then I remember what Paul tells the Corinthians. He said in his first letter to them to "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." I'm ready to do just that.

Our God is so incomprehensibly good to us and I want to dedicate this space on our little website to boast in Our Lord. God has been at work in BIG WAYS at Overflow Church! He has worked in us, as we grow in our faith in Jesus. He has also worked through us to see the gospel spread throughout our community. I am so proud of my Savior, Jesus, and the church he allows me to be a part of and I want the world to know it!

So this blog (and that will probably be the last time I ever use that word) will be a place to boast...a place to boast about our Jesus! I hope this becomes a place of encouragement. A place where the mighty works of our Lord are proclaimed and celebrated. Be prepared to read stories of His grace and mercy, His love and faithfulness, His strength and provision.

God's at work all around us and it's time to not only set our minds on things above but also time to boast in the Lord!
